Itinerary

Day by day

  1. Day 1

    Arrival in Maun & Transfer to the Delta

    Meet your Unfold Africa guide at Maun International Airport (MUB) or your hotel for a briefing on the safari ahead.

    • ·Transfer: A safari vehicle takes you from Maun into the Okavango Delta, a 1–2 hour drive through local villages and changing landscapes.
    • ·Mokoro Station: Meet your local polers. The mokoros (traditional dugout canoes) are loaded with your gear and you begin a serene journey through the winding channels of the Okavango.
    • ·Campsite: Arrive at your private, pre-set campsite in the Kaziikini concession area and settle into your tents.
    • ·Evening: Sundowners by the campfire as the sun sets over the delta, followed by a chef-prepared dinner under the stars and storytelling around the fire.

  2. Day 2

    Walking Safari and Mokoro Exploration

    Wake with hot coffee or tea delivered to your tent before your first guided walking safari.

    • ·Early Morning: Light breakfast and a guided walk. Your guide shares deep bush knowledge, tracking animals, identifying plants, and pointing out the smaller details often missed from a vehicle.
    • ·Mid-day: Return to camp for a hearty brunch and relax through the heat of the day.
    • ·Afternoon: Further exploration by mokoro. Your polers glide silently through clear waters. Watch for elephants, red lechwe and even sitatunga antelope.
    • ·Evening: Sundowners from a scenic spot, dinner and a relaxed evening around the campfire.

  3. Day 3

    Full Day of Walking & Wilderness Immersion

    A longer walking safari focused on a deeper sense of the wilderness.

    • ·Early Morning: After breakfast, head out to track specific signs of wildlife and learn about animal behaviour.
    • ·Mid-day: A picnic lunch at a picturesque bush location.
    • ·Late Afternoon: Return to camp for a refreshing shower and downtime.
    • ·Evening: A three-course dinner and time to reflect on the day's encounters.

  4. Day 4

    Mokoro to a New Location & Island Walk

    Pack up camp and glide through new channels to a different part of the concession.

    • ·Mid-day: Light lunch on one of the larger islands, your base for a guided walking safari exploring land-based ecosystems.
    • ·Late Afternoon: Final mokoro leg to a new campsite with time to relax before dinner.
    • ·Evening: Farewell dinner with your guide and polers, celebrating the experiences and connections made.

  5. Day 5

    Final Mokoro & Departure

    A final morning coffee and breakfast at camp, with one last short mokoro trip or walking safari.

    • ·Late Morning: Board your mokoros for the final time, heading back to the mokoro station where the safari vehicle waits.
    • ·Transfer: A scenic road transfer to Maun, arriving early afternoon at Maun International Airport or your hotel.
