Tau Pan is the first semi-permanent camp inside the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. Set on the elevated ridge of an ancient sand dune, it offers truly incredible views over the famous Tau Pan — recognised for its stark beauty and remoteness, an unusual vantage point in a land as flat as Botswana.

'Tau,' meaning lion in Setswana, is so named for the pride of iconic black-maned Kalahari lions who frequent the camp (with a particular preference for the family tent). Other Kalahari species include oryx, desert-adapted springbok, jackals, the rare brown hyena, red-crested Korhaan and herds of wildebeest. Activities include game drives, day trips to Deception Valley, Sunday, Piper and Passarge Pans, star gazing and nature walks with Bushman trackers.

Nine environmentally adapted en-suite tents — including one family tent — sit on raised decks with indoor and outdoor showers, double-basin vanities, King-sized beds and writing desks. The main area circles a fireplace overlooking the waterhole, with bar, lounge, curio shop and dining. A sleep-out deck on the eastern side of camp offers unrivalled star gazing under some of the darkest skies on earth. The camp runs on solar power, with a treatment plant returning water to the Kalahari sands.

Lagoon is perched on the banks of the wild Kwando River, nestled beneath towering ebony and marula trees. The heavily forested site is home to a wide variety of birds and mammals, while elephant and hippo are normally visible from the camp. Stunning views and close-quarters wildlife create a pervading sense of calm.

The Kwando Reserve has a well-earned reputation for big game and large herds of elephant and buffalo — especially in winter, when herds of up to a thousand are not uncommon. This concentration attracts large predators; the Lagoon wild dog pack regularly dens close to camp, making it one of the best places in Botswana to see wild dog.

Nine expansive tents accommodate up to 18 guests, each with a private deck, living area and en-suite bathroom (indoor and outdoor showers, plus a bathtub). The main area includes a bar, outdoor deck with a swing, dining area, curio shop, and a cosy second-level library over the river. A double-deck boat runs afternoon river cruises with sundowners; fishing is available in season (March–December).

Lebala means 'wide open spaces,' and the camp sits on the Kwando River floodplains within 232,000 hectares of private unfenced wilderness. The ecosystem is home to zebra, wildebeest, impala, giraffe and tsessebe, alongside elephant, hippo, buffalo and the ever-present predators — lion, cheetah and hyena. Its position away from the dense mopane woodland to the east makes traversing for big game especially easy.

Nine custom-designed tents feature unique mosquito-net walls that allow cooling breezes and uninterrupted views. Each has a private viewing deck, en-suite bathroom and luxurious double outside showers. A family tent with an additional twin bedroom keeps parents and young children under the same canvas.

The main area includes a small swimming pool, communal fire place, dining room, curio shop, bar and lounge with a small library. Private outdoor dinners can be arranged by the poolside or fireplace for birthdays, anniversaries and honeymoons.

Bushman Plains Camp is a return to origins — Botswana's first Bushman-owned safari camp, in the heart of the Okavango Delta. Small and authentic, it is teeming with wildlife year-round and blessed by permanent water channels, so guests enjoy a rich mix of land and water-based activities.

The wildlife experience is enriched by some of the best cultural engagement in the Okavango. Overlooking a secluded lagoon in the northern Okavango Delta, Kwara offers the ultimate Delta experience — access to permanent waterways and expansive dry-land game country from one camp. Activities include day and night game drives, mokoro trips, fishing (spinning gear provided; open season March–December), and a double-decker boat cruise to Godikwe Lagoon in the Moremi Game Reserve, famed for its nesting birdlife.

The concession is known for consistent predator sightings — lion, cheetah, leopard and occasionally white rhino — as well as elephant herds, giraffe, zebra, sitatunga, lechwe, impala and hippo.

The décor pays homage to the authentic African style of Kwando Safaris. Nine canvas tents each have a spacious deck over the lagoon, en-suite bathrooms with indoor and outdoor showers and a bath with views to the floodplains. The main area holds dining, lounge and curio shop, with two small pool areas at either end of the camp. Kwara is a digital-detox camp (no wifi or cell signal) so guests can fully embrace the wilderness.

Splash Camp sits in the heart of the Okavango Delta within the private Kwara Reserve, offering a relaxed, friendly and authentic atmosphere. The area takes its name from the huge water crossings that once had to be negotiated to reach it.

The Kwara Reserve shares a 30km water boundary with the famous Moremi Game Reserve. Its labyrinth of permanent channels, seasonal floodplains and extensive dry bush makes it one of the finest places in Botswana for both game viewing and varied activities.

Twelve rooms are set on decks around a game-attracting pan, each with en-suite flush toilet, double sinks, indoor and outdoor showers, and a private veranda. The main area has a plunge pool, bar, lounge, orientation centre and curio shop. In front, towards the pan, a fire pit hosts light breakfasts before activities and evening stories after supper.

Third Bridge camp site sits on the western side of Moremi Game Reserve along an off-stream of the Moanachira River, bordering the Delta and Mboma Island. It enjoys a heavy concentration of wildlife in the dry season, which is why we chose it.

Whenever we stay here, we add a few special touches to make it feel like your new home in the wilderness. We erect a mess tent as the communal meeting point and dining space, where our chef serves a hot English breakfast plus delicious lunches and dinners, with wines and hot beverages available and any special requests welcomed.

There are eight comfortable tents, all with en-suite bathrooms and running water. The camp accommodates up to twelve guests (aged 7 and above) and can be reached by air or road — your preferred transfer is chosen at booking.

Sango Safari Camp nestles in the shade of trees overlooking the Khwai River, on the outskirts of the traditional village of Khwai and bordering Moremi Game Reserve. It is named after the Sango Family — original inhabitants of the Khwai area — who collaborated with Bush Ways to develop the camp.

The Khwai area offers a unique variety of safari experiences thanks to its position on the edge of the Okavango Delta. Although this is the drier part of the Delta, the year-round Khwai River attracts one of Botswana's finest wildlife concentrations and enables both land and water-based activities.

Its location next to the quaint village of Khwai also offers a genuine encounter with the local community, leading you into the cultural heart of Botswana.

This award-winning camp lies in the Amboseli ecosystem within the exclusive Selenkay Conservancy — an important wildlife dispersal area for animals moving out of Amboseli National Park. The private conservation area means the best possible game viewing in proper off-road safari vehicles, off the beaten track and away from tourist minibuses.

The camp is small — just ten spacious guest tents — and retains all the charm of the traditional mobile safari camps of days gone by. Tents are tastefully furnished with solar-powered lighting and en-suite bathrooms (shower, wash basin, flush toilet). A family unit consists of two rooms with a lounge in between, each with a king size and single bed.

The experience is exclusive yet friendly (maximum 20 guests) and fully-inclusive of meals, drinks (wine, spirits, beer, sodas, water) and activities — day and night shared game drives, guided walks and sundowners in specially-designed 4×4 open-sided vehicles with expert guides. Road or flight transfers can be arranged from Nairobi.

This small, intimate eco-camp is located within Ol Pejeta Conservancy, a vast 90,000-acre wildlife area between the Aberdares and Mount Kenya. The conservancy is home to the Big Five, is the largest sanctuary in East Africa for the endangered Black Rhino, and also shelters rescued chimpanzees.

Porini Rhino Camp sits in a secluded valley on the banks of a seasonal river under acacia shade. Just eight spacious guest tents are carefully sited for the best views. Each has solar-power lighting and an en-suite hot shower and flush toilet. The camp is designed for minimum environmental impact — no permanent structures, eco-friendly fuel — and a wildlife hide allows close, safe viewing right in front of camp.

Porini Mara Camp is a non-seasonal safari camp set in Ol Kinyei Conservancy — an 18,700-acre wilderness sanctuary with open plains, forests, rivers, stunning views and a wide variety of species including the big cats. Game drives can also extend into the nearby Maasai Mara National Reserve and the adjacent Naboisho Conservancy.

The award-winning camp is set beneath yellow-barked acacia trees along the banks of the Laetoli, with just five spacious guest tents and one family unit — an exclusive yet friendly feel. Each tent has comfortable furnishings and en-suite facilities with hot shower and flush toilet. The camp's chef uses fresh ingredients for high-quality meals, including home-baked bread.

The camp is fully-inclusive of meals, drinks and activities: day and night game drives, sundowners, escorted walks, and the option of a hot air balloon safari. Zebra Plains Mara Camp is in the Maasai Mara Game Reserve, home to the annual Great Migration of wildebeest and zebra and to abundant lions, cheetahs, leopards, elephants, giraffes, hippos and other wildlife. The camp has open views over the plains of the Mara and is frequently visited by resident game.

Luxury tented rooms are furnished with every amenity for a comfortable stay and can be configured as double, single or triple according to guest preferences. Two of the rooms are designed for honeymooners and other special occasions.

One standard luxury family tent has two connected rooms each with its own amenities — recommended for families with small children or four adults in two twins. Two deluxe tented family villas each have two rooms connected by a lounge and dining area (convertible into an additional room), well suited to families or larger groups. All tents have hot and cold running water, washing basin, flushing toilet, mosquito nets and comfortable safari chairs on the veranda.

The Angama Safari Camp is a light-footprint, sole-use tented camp accommodating up to eight guests in four lovely en-suite tents deep in the Maasai Mara. It captures the romance and adventure of the Golden Age of safaris with a lightness of spirit — 21st-century camping comforts with only canvas between you and the abundant Mara wildlife.

The guest tents are designed for landscape orientation to maximise light and views across the plains. Each has an extra-king length bed, writing desk, dressing room, vanity, separate WC and the playful addition of double bucket showers. Interiors echo much-loved elements from Angama Mara — red Fermob rocking chairs and furniture by master-weaver John Vogel — with the best of everything but always just the right amount of everything.

The exclusive site is surrounded by prides of lion, cheetah, leopard, large elephant herds, buffalo and abundant plains game. During the migration you're in the heart of the mega herds; nights are spent under the stars, falling asleep to the nocturnal wilderness punctuated by lion and hyena calls.

This award-winning camp of eight domed canvas-and-glass suites sits on the edge of a forest skirting Olmoti Volcano, within the UNESCO-listed Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The camp feels remote yet is within easy reach of Ngorongoro for day-long game drives after lion, elephant and giraffe, with midday picnics under shady trees.

From camp, guests can hike Olmoti for staggering views or take a half-day trip to the soda lake in Empakaai Crater, where thousands of pink flamingos congregate. Cultural interactions with the local Maasai community — learning traditions and walking the cattle back to the boma — are woven in.

Set on the lush slopes of Olmoti, The Highlands has sweeping views right across to the Serengeti. The eight tents are canvas-and-perspex domes inspired by traditional Maasai bomas. At the heart of camp, a library with indoor fireplace replaces the typical safari campfire — the gathering place each evening to share the day's wildlife stories over pre-dinner drinks.

Legendary Lodge sits on a working coffee plantation in the foothills of Mount Meru, on the outskirts of Arusha — the gateway to Tanzania's celebrated Northern Safari Circuit. Ten beautiful garden cottages and two family cottages each have their own private veranda.
