A journey beyond the standard safari: walking with the San, tracking rhino on foot, and experiencing a way of life as old as humanity itself.
"Kalahari," the name itself speaks to the resilience of life in a "thirsty land." For millennia, the San people have thrived here without surface water, reading the ground, identifying specific vegetation to uncover moisture, and utilising ancient vessels like ostrich eggs and leopard tortoise shells to sustain life. Join us for a journey beyond the standard safari; join us to experience a way of life as old as humanity itself.

Itinerary
Day by day
- Day 1
Arrival in the Ancient Sands
Arrival at Grasslands. We depart Maun for the southwest, crossing into the heart of the Kalahari. Whether by a 4-hour drive or a 30-minute flight, the transition from the delta to the vast, open arid plains is immediate.
- ·Once settled, we will have a quiet briefing on the cultural protocols for our time with the San community, ensuring our presence is respectful and non-intrusive.
- Day 2
The Ways of the Bush
Our journey begins with an introduction to the bush through the eyes of a San family. We will spend the morning and afternoon walking, learning the fundamental rhythms of the desert.
- ·This is not just a walk; it is an orientation to the environment, teaching you to "read" the ground, understand the vegetation, and see the land not as a void, but as a pantry and a home.
- Day 3
The Art of the Track
Today is dedicated to the ancient skill of tracking. We will set out with the San trackers to find rhino. This is a practice in patience, silence, and absolute focus.
- ·You will observe how the family interprets the smallest disturbances in the sand and the movement of the wind.
- ·Our goal is to locate the rhino and observe them in their natural state, entirely undisturbed, perfecting the art of being present without leaving a trace, utilising the vegetation as our cover.
- Day 4
Wisdom and Farewell
We spend the morning engaging in the traditional games and oral histories of the San. While the modern world offers plastic toys, the San children find wonder and education in the natural world, and today, you will participate in these timeless activities.
- ·We will also learn the art of foraging and harvesting wild fruits, accompanied by the legendary stories of the Kalahari.
- ·After breakfast and a final gathering with the family, we begin our journey back to Maun, carrying the silence and wisdom of the desert with us.
